HOLLAND SKIES AND BULBS - A PHOTOGRAPHIC TOUR
with Elisa Paloschi and HansEikelenboom
April 2016 (please enquire about dates)
6 participants
Holland is great big giant skies, mountains of air, and misunderstood landscapes.
Early spring is the time for bulbs, lively livid skies and bursting fields of colour. It could be exactly as you have imagine; a country below sea-level with impressive dikes and an extensive network of waterways; that quintessential land of windmills, farmers in clogs, row upon row of tulips and daffodils, picturesque villages and grassy roofed houses. Or Cities, intense with busy bicycle traffic, modern art, and seedy neighbourhoods. Or the natural world of sweeping dunes and quiet marshes and even the stormy skies of spring time. It is all of that, of course, but it will also be so much more.
This tour focuses on discovering the lesser-known people places and things, and exploring creative ways of seeing through the lens. You will photograph all that which you imagine Holland to be, but you’ll be in for plenty a surprise, as we explore the memorable unexpected hidden gems along the way.
We’ll travel back roads by van, and explore by foot, train, tram and ferry. We’ll dig around flea markets, produce markets, and antique shops. We’ll gawk at impressive architectural feats, from ancient to contemporary and we’ll visit cheese producers, sheep farms, and artisan studios. We’ll wander along sand swept dunes, shell encrusted beaches, dense eco-systems of the marshes. We’ll ponder our work, and talk photography in local cafes, “brown bars”, and botanical gardens, always, and foremost, with the intention of expanding our creative minds, making images, and of photographing to our hearts content.
THE PARTICIPANTS
This tour is for anyone interested in photography, from novice to experienced amateur or professionals, who want to expand their vision, improve technical skills, and change the way they see. This tour will provide an opportunity to meet with people who are totally immersed in photography, exchange ideas and share enthusiasm with others involved in the medium. Time spent as a group can be a journey both visually and emotionally - a time for the soul to get away from the daily routines and refresh the creative energies.
ABOUT US
ABOUT US
I’m Elisa Paloschi, a Toronto based filmmaker and photographer who spends most of my time traveling far from the city. I’ve been designing and leading photography tours since 2005 to places like India, Italy and now Holland. I’m known for exploring far off the beaten track (even in the middle of a tourist destination), and for my uncanny ability of wiggle my way into the strangest of places. My aim is to share my love of photography and travel, while taking you places you’d never imagine, all while show off my super-power like skills of finding the light. My website
Hans is our local expert, an explorer of the lesser-known, a person who consistently astonishes by what he discouvers and where he’s been. I’ve met Hans in surprising places, including under a volcano in Iceland, beside a river in Finland, in a ghost town in Italy and a 6am bar in Paris. He photographs the way he lives, never the obvious, and always in search of those mysterious little things that most often go unseen by others. He’s also an expert in many other areas, including the water-ways of The Netherlands, whiskey, music and the visual arts (ask him about his collection) to name a few.
